A whopping 34% of the web is said to use Wordpress. You can build anything from a blogging website right up to news websites and just about anything else you can think of.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a content managed system (CMS). What this basically means is a site owner can log into the website and make changes to the content on the fly using easy to understand forms.

Wordpress is supported by over 50,000 plug-ins and other extensions that turn your site to whatever you need. There are hundreds of pre-made themes to choose from in terms of your website look and feel. I am able to build you a custom design should you already have a particular look and feel for your business.

As long you have access to the Internet you can make any kind of changes to your website. So if you run a sports club site and need to update the scores as they happen, Wordpress can do this for you.

Why use WordPress?

Whilst a huge amount of websites now run WordPress, it doesn't necessarily mean that they should be. Many web designers just make every site they do using WordPress. This is lazy and is not in the interests of the client or their website. WordPress can do a lot - if it is used correctly. If you have a small website which will only require basic changes then WordPress is for you.

If you have ever used E-bay or Facebook to add content to the pages then you will be familiar with the entry system of WordPress. By doing the changes yourself you can cut out the need for a web designer to make the changes for you thus saving money. It is important to note however that whilst you can alter the text and image, if you wanted to make bigger changes you would need to know how to do it or hire a professional to do it for you.

Wordpress is very similar to Joomla. Both enable you to edit the site yourself. There are some subtle differences between the two however. Joomla is much more suited to larger and more complex websites and WordPress is best suited to blogs or smaller sites. If you contact me with your requirements I can then help you to work out which solution is the right one for you.
